Luis Alicea

Luis Alicea is a former Major League Baseball player and coach, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. He played 13 seasons as a second baseman with Kansas City Royals, Texas Rangers, Anaheim Angels, St. Louis Cardinals, and Boston Red Sox
Before MLB, he played college baseball for the Florida State University Seminoles under head coach Mike Martin. After his playing days ended, he managed within the Red Sox minor league System from 2004 to 2006. In 2006 Alicea was named the first base coach for the Red Sox. He served in this position during the Red Sox’s World Series winning season in 2007 and the 2008 season. Alicea was then hired by the New York Mets to be their first base coach for the 2009 season.
After his time within Major League Baseball, Alicea focused his talents on becoming a successful entrepreneur; he began running a baseball academy for kids in South Florida which allowed him to both stay close to his family and introduce a new generation to baseball. Luis has been involved in several other ventures and enjoys actively participating in the companies in which he invests.
While at the academy, Alicea created the Luis Alicea Scholarship Fund to allow children who are financially unable to participate in sports play baseball. It is important to Alicea to pay it forward for the opportunities he’s received throughout his life to the next generation. Luis lives in South Florida with his family and enjoys all sorts of outdoor activities such as golf, fishing, and equestrian sports.
